This statement was created in June 2025.
This accessibility statement applies to the Wordery Website https://www.Wordery.com
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 200 per cent without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- interact with most of the website using a screen reader
We also try to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.
If you have a disability, search AbilityNet for "how to" guides to make your device easier to use.
How accessible this website is
We acknowledge that parts of this website are not fully accessible.
PDFs
Many of our PDFs are not fully accessible to screen reader software. Some of these PDFs are required to access particular services. Examples include order invoices. If you are having problems using these PDFs, contact our customer services.
Other parts of the website that are not fully accessible
These include:
- some online forms that are not easy for screen readers to navigate
- some links and images that are not self-explanatory to screen reader users
- links to websites or software that we do not own or manage and so cannot guarantee their accessibility
- https://support.wordery.com/hc/en-gb/articles/27512217328658-Contact-Customer-Services is hosted by a third-party and we will be reviewing this as part of our on-going work to make our whole site more accessible
- Book2Look function is hosted by a third-party and we will be reviewing this as part of our on-going work to make our whole site more accessible
We are actively working to address these issues as part of an ongoing programme to improve the accessibility of this website.

Technical information about this website's accessibility
We are committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the accessibility regulations.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content that is not accessible is listed below together with an explanation and reference to the relevant WCAG section.
Global Issues
- 1.4.6 Contrast / 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast - Some text, icons, images, and form fields do not meet the threshold for contrast. We plan to change these colours so that they are easier to read
- 1.4.4 Resize Text - We allow zoom of the entire page content which we believe satisfies this criteria. However, we currently use some absolute font sizing (i.e. pixels) which may limit some text scaling options. We plan to improve this by changing fonts to use relative units (e.g. rem, em)
- 1.4.5 Images of Text - Some images on the site contain text - we plan to provide live text for these instead
- 1.1.1 Non-text Content - For some elements on the site we use alt text to describe images (e.g. book jackets), but some images remain without alt text. We are working towards adding them to all necessary images across the site. There is also the potential for some of these to get too long (e.g. for particularly long book titles). We will aim to shorten these where possible. Some images (e.g. lazy-loaded images) are missing alt text - we plan to add this
- 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus - Some of the tooltips we use on the site are not accessible. We aim to improve this so that the content stays visible, is easy to dismiss, and lets users select and interact with the text
- 1.3.1 Info and Relationships / 1.3.6 Identify Purpose - Some of the markup on this page is not clear, including some headings which are not nested properly. We plan to add semantic markup to make this page more readable for all users
- 2.4.2 Page Titled - A number of pages on the site do not have a unique title element that describes what’s on that page. We plan to add these.
- 2.4.7 Focus Visible - Some links and buttons across the site have the visual focus indicator hidden. We are in the process of fixing this, and plan to meet this criteria by the end of 2025.
Third party plugins and components
We use a number of third-party plugins and components, some of which do not fully meet WCAG accessibility criteria. There is a development plan to replace these third-party components with bespoke solutions by mid 2026.
Cookie Consent Banner
We use a third-party cookie consent banner to manage users' cookie preferences. We are aware that this banner does not fully meet some WCAG success criteria, including:
- 1.4.4 Resize Text - Uses some absolute font sizing (i.e. pixels) which may limit some text scaling options
- 2.4.7 Focus Visible - The third-party CSS removes the visual focus indicator of some elements
Despite the above issues CookieYes has stated that they intend to be compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. If the above points are not addressed by mid 2026 then we will reassess our use of this plugin and find a suitable alternative.Template or Feature Specific
Sliders and Carousels
We currently use a third-party slider/carousel component on various pages on our site, including (but not limited to):
- Ribbon banners at the top of the page
- Large scrolling banners (e.g. at the top of the homepage)
- Products with multiple images
We are aware that these components do not meet the following WCAG accessibility criteria:
- 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value - The aria-role does not have an accessible name, and may not allow accessibility aids to interact properly with them
Forms
We have a number of forms on the site, including (but not limited to): Sign in, registration, account details and checkout forms. We are aware that some of these forms do not meet WCAG accessibility criteria. There is a development plan to meet these criteria by mid 2026:
- 1.3.1 Info and Relationships - Form labels are missing or broken
- 3.3.1 Error Identification - For some forms on the site, some error messages are not automatically announced to users of assistive technology
- 2.4.6 Headings and Labels / 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions - Some input fields do not use unique labels. We plan to add these so that users can distinguish between form controls on the same page when read out aloud.
- 2.5.3 Label in Name - Some aria-labels are unnecessary and do not match the html labels we are using. We plan to remove these extra labels to simplify and make it clearer and more readable for the user
Checkout
- 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value - A syntax error meaning the aria label for the featured book Add To Basket button is not read correctly.
- 1.3.1 Info and Relationships / 1.3.6 Identify Purpose - Some headings are not nested property. We plan to update the markup on the page to make it more readable for all users
- 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) - The header back button and logo both have the same link to the homepage, which can be confusing
Account Area
- 1.1.1 Non-text Content / 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) / 2.4.9 Link Purpose (Link Only) - Some of the account area pages use a back button with no label or description. We plan to add a text label to this so that it is clear what the purpose of the link is
Product Listing
- 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) / 2.4.9 Link Purpose (Link Only) - Individual search results contain multiple links to the same URL (i.e. the image and title are both separate links to the same place with the same link text). We plan to refactor this so that only one link per result is shown
- 1.1.1 Non-text Content - The input field for the page number, and the ‘Add to wishlist buttons do not have accessible names. We plan to add these
Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Many of our older PDFs do not meet accessibility standards. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. We do have plans to remove or replace some of the PDFs with more accessible content alternatives. Wherever possible, we avoid PDFs. Instead, we create content as structured web pages in HTML
What we're doing to improve accessibility
Wordery intends to focus on continuous testing and development to improve accessibility across its website and online services.
